I’m taking the girls to see Megamind this morning.

It looks pretty good. So what’s your favourite ‘kids’ film then?
I know you like to pretend you’re all growed up and appreciate only the finest film noir and stuff, but sometimes you just can’t beat the Curse of the Wier-rabbit (my personal favourite) 😉

You’re recommendations please. As some might turn up on DVD from Santa

Spirited Away for me, though I am happy to watch any Studio Ghibli films…

Ice Age because the opening sequence is like a textbook of perfect animation. Action/reaction, facial expressions, ‘legs start running before body catches up’, falling from great heights and the corollaries thereof. Plus it’s funny as ****.

Spirited away is great, but I think I’m going to go with The Dark Crystal, an oldie but a goodie.

Wall-E. Wonderful film and I think the best of all the pixar movies.

After that, gotta be jungle book. The good test is that the kids love those both also.

Monsters Inc for me, especially the short film ‘Mike’s New Car’

    From the classics, Jungle Book.

Of the modern stuff. Coraline; quite disturbing but brilliant.

With real actors; Nannie McPhee and the Big Bang. Emma Thompson and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Mmmmmm….

Totoro is my current fave, my two year old loves it.

What are the other films by the same guys/studio that you’d recommend?

All the Miyazaki Ghibli films are brilliant, you should watch them all. Totoro and Ponyo are ideal for tinies, Mononoke and Nausicaa are better for older kids due to occasional scary monsters. They’re all good though, I can happily watch any Miyazaki film over and over, haven’t got bored of them yet.

You cant beat Star Wars – Depends on kids ages though as younger ones might not like it.

Another favourite is the Toy Story movies. So much for the kids but there’s also some great one-liners just for the adults.

    chitty chitty bang bang
Tom and Jerry – still funny now for kids and adults reminds me of my Grandad
    Junglebook
    Yellow Submairine
    Star wars
    Shrek
Scooby do – them not me there
Sound of Music – them again
Cars – whats it called with Lightning Mc Queen???
Fantasia – but they like classical music anyway

Most of the recent animation CGI stuff of late is very watchable
Princess Bride one day but they dont get it at the minute and were bored.

The whole class go to watch Watership Down when we were nine/ten. Certainly made an impression – all those stunned little faces of my classmates are still etched into my memory. You can probably get it on DVD nowadays.
