Conti Rubber Queen, width of your choice (the 2.4" isn't as much of a drag as you'd think) but black chilli if you can get it. Tubeless would help too.
I've attempted some fairly silly climbs with the rubber queen and its tenacity is amazing, was shocked how easily i was winching round rocky switchbacks on the Devil's Staircase

big (a proper 2.4 or larger)
dual ply (no point pretending its going to be quick)
super soft (it'll be maxxis then)
slick (there's no mud so tread is useless)
15psi and tubeless
I recon that combo on a grippy frame with a high BB (whyte?) and wound down forks, fliped stem etc, it could (almost) be easy.

Specialized Mt Baldy 1.9's at about 65psi on an S works HT last 'summer' - was dry mind . . . . .

cleaning jacobs ladder? Tyres won't do you much good. Use a mop and warm, soapy water

lol, i was originaly going to suggest new ones with the little stringy bits may be best, although time consuming.

Mr.Muscle impregnated foam tyres should do a good job of in. in fact that and mickey74's suggestion would be a damned good idea since it's right filthy at the bottom. could do with a cleanup and then we might be able to try 'riding' it.
anyone fancy a STW trail cleaning weekend then - after Jacobs, we could do TheBeast (now that is a dirty mess if I ever did see one and in need of a general tidy up) - any others need cleaning?
