I sold the Hope QR one as I despised it way too much. It's for a 456SS so 29.8/30.0mm needed. Thinking of a Salsa, anything else out there that's cheap and works well? Can be a bolt jobbie, not fussed about the QR.

salsa are lovely just need to find one in blue and 30.6 for my new frame that doesn't involve having to deal with the cocks that are mark anthony/activesport.co.uk as they are truly awful
for cheapy cheap then the superstar ones are actually rather good
kcnc and token do some lovely lightweight jobbos that work much better than hope as well

None of them offers 29.8/30.0mm.

I personally like salsa ones and they do a 30mm. I have a black one that's 30mm bolt through but in after a QR one in blue.

I use a 30mm gusset one from crc, was about £6 (bolt up) and hasn't budged yet.

On One do a selection from £4.99 upwards.

Who sells Salsa in UK? Charlie The Bikemonger doesn't seem to stock the clamps, I've emailed him already.

Salsa QR is ace

I was going to say salsa but also check out the Ragley one (CRC have them). Nice long lever and a spare plastic bush.
Posted 1 year ago # -
Have you seen the Ragley in real life? What quality is it really? Salsa is lovely and it matters (I'm a tart, me).
Posted 1 year ago # -
I've not. If you want tarty then deffo the salsa. Or that other make that costs £35 or something silly.

I've got the Ragley one - works fine, in fact it will be going on my new 456SS.

chromag, that's it: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=40622 yikes!
The ragley one looks like it's sold under the Azonic brand too: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=4584

I have a superstar one and it one of the best things I've ever bought. Easy to use and tight. I remove my seat to transport my bike so it gets used lots. I highly recommend it. The big paddle is very easy on the fingers too.

I'm with andyL. As a cheap alternative to an uppy downy post (the original method ) I use my seat qr a lot, and after all the crap (including hope, cotic, santacruz, and many others) the chromag one consistently performs. I have 3 of them for my now three regular bikes.

SSC don't have a 30mm, no use recommending them. Chromag one is an opening into a new world of expensive bike bits, not sure I should (not saying I won't either).

you want a good one, get the chromag, the rest are shit in comparison.

if i have a 27.2mm seattube, what size seat clamp do you need? i think its 31.8mm but the salsa ones seem to be 32mm? is this the correct one?
Posted 1 year ago # -
The On-One takes a 29.8/30.0mm one despite having a 27.2mm post. Steel as opposed to aluminium.
Posted 1 year ago # -
What ever you do don't get one with a plastic bush, get one that has a brass bush or shim, these are far superior. They don't squash and deform then go slack.

Out of stock at the moment. The fixed one is in stock for 6.99.

I had that on-one clamp and whilst the theory is good, that bush squished out of the way really fast and was soon alloy/alloy and grinding like a good un. The chromag bush isnt going anywhere, its just better..

Cromag....pah..... just for labelwhores with more money than sense

i've got a thomson bolt-up in really good nic as it's only a couple of months old, it's 29.8mm and came off my 456 which was sold recently £10 posted.

oscillate wildly, 29.8 or 30mm usually for steel frames with 27.2 seatpost, alu frames with 27.2 posts are usually 31.9/32mm clamp. This is cos you have to make/draw the seat tube walls thicker for aluminum than for steel. 0.2mm difference is not much of an issue for a seatclamp but definitely is for the seatpost!

cheers julian! yeah alu frame so 32mm it is then! lovely stuff!
