Stinking Bishop strong enough? Or some blue cheeses can be quite strong ie Stilton,Stichelton,Cashel Blue etc.

Funny thing is that many cheeses that have a strong aroma can be mellow & creamy yet others that almost have no aroma are like licking a 12v battery in the mouth?

    yes licking a 12v battery that’s what I’m after!

What about that cheese in Sicily(I think) that has maggots in it?
    I agree with Mr Overshoot

Shropshire blue has to be my favourite, better than Stilton IMO

Why don’t you want a good flavoured cheese?
Go and get some Stilton that doesn’t make the shops and is simply left to fester, it’s rank, so should fit the bill.

Yetim, try Stichelton. Like Stilton but made with unpasturized milk. Very nice and a bit tastier than Stilton.

For a mainstream cheese, Colliers Welsh Cheddar is pretty darn nice.

    What kind of cheese?

For cheddar, Montgomereys Extra Mature is pretty tasty.
Blue, maybe Roquefort? Very salty though.
Washed rind cheeses, like Stinking Bishop, Epoisses or Tallegio have the bonus of being strong AND dangerously stinky 🙂

Word of warning. I love my strong cheeses however I met my match with Stinking Bishop. Putrid horrible stuff, truly vile.

I know it’s mainstream but you can’t go far wrong with St Agur, leave it out of the fridge for a few hours and it’s superb.

The key is to buy unpasteurised IMO. If you like variants on mature Cheddar, consider buying it from Cheddar: Cheese. They sell truckles that they actually age in Cheddar caves.

The Bishop is bordering on putrid.

Schmiken beat me to it, Snowdonia Black Bomber, it comes in a truckel and is that strong it hurts your mouth. Without doubt one of the strongest cheeses oot there but careful now.

One of my favourite too, Stilton tastes raw in comparison IMO

Its OK but way too salty compared to a good sharp Cheddar, again IMO
