that a mere 'bike' does not?

    long travel
    big tyres
    dinner plate brake rotors
    wide bars/short stem
    chain device
    ?

or is it all about the attitude of the rider?

A Rig needs to be able to Rock Up to Trail.

    Not *a* trail, just *Trail*.

A Rig will be ridden by someone Stoked to be out riding.

    To the max I expect.

So a DH (specific/focussed) bike then?

    I (genuinly) don't know.

It's just a term I've seen a bit on here recently and I wondered what it meant to everyone.

My view was that's it's probably a heavier, gravity focused type of thing but a Blue Pig might fit that description with a certain build and not with others and is a hardtail.

In the end I wonder if it's just like 'steed' or whatever – a way of describing your bike that makes it sound more exciting than a Raleigh shopper?

Oh yes, Off The Chain has nothing to do with actual chains, more to do with Hooks, but Hooking Up is different to that, and that has nothing to do with tyre grip.

Fo example, a Bro could Hook You Up with a Rig, with that Rig you could Rock Up to Trail and Send It Off The Chain.

If something is good then it's off the chain e.g. 'That Yumeya chain is off the chain!', so technically 'send it off the chain' doesn't work.

What concerns me is that if you 'shred the rad' then your 'ride' could be 'off the hook' but then is your 'ride' your 'rig', or was it the ride you just 'sent it' on (or off)?
