Following his swift withdrawal from the Labour leadership dick dance, anyone care to speculate what might appear in the papers over the weekend?

I’m praying that someone’s photographed him fondling an escort’s breast accompanied by the headline “Chuka Hooker Knocker Shocker”…

    😉

Although Peter Mandelson has been backing him to the hilt, he would have gone nowhere without a laying on of hands from Len McCluskey.

So that’s why his eyes were watering… 😯

I was hoping he was going to use the slogan ‘Chuka Can’ with ‘I feel for you’ as the backing track.

    Chuka Can’t

Reasons given seem to be reporters repeatedly doorstepping the 102 grandmother of his girlfreind and a desire to protect his family from further intrusive press attention.

Some speculation he was unlikely to get 35 MP’s to back him.

My sis in law had the press camped outside her house round the clock knocking on her door, shouting through her letterbox (yes I imagine this will have happened too as this is one of their tactics) asking for an interview, pleading for an interview through the letterbox in the hope that they are the one given the exclusive and not one of their competitors also camped out.

With this in mind- WOULD YOU? Considering you might be an outsider of a chance of getting the job anyway. I’d say eff this.

If you can’t stand the pressure of the press when you’re running for leadership it doesn’t bode well for what happens once your ARE the leader.

this, surely? I can’t stand the guy (way to slick/plastic/corporate) but I grant him with enough intelligence not to accept captaincy of a sinking ship.

Im not sure depends on the staying power of the SNP, who knows maybe theyll implode the way UKIP are right now and Labour will get all those seats back, maybe

Why should a leader need to bear the intrusion of the press

they did some seriously unpleasant hatchet jobs on Ed…

If your calling your dead dad a traitor is not out of bounds then what the **** is?
I would not like the “pressure ” either.

Worked as a club DJ previously, quite possibly did more than just smoke wacky baccy ?

His mother lives in a house purchased by a Jersey Trust – classic stamp duty avoidance / inheritance tax “planning”. Just saying.

Was probably tipped the wink by the union bloc that even by 2020 – or perhaps sooner – a ‘visibly ethnic minority person’ would stand even less of a chance of leading the ruins of the ‘labour’ party to Downing Street given the sort of nasty social attitudes which would have been inculated by then…

    Sad but true.

As did a number of high profile front benchers serving in the cabinet if rumours are true…strange the press never go after the Bullingdon boys eh.

Bill Grimsey has just poured gallons of crap on Chukka on the PM programme in an interview recorded before Chukka’s withdrawal. Not tough enough, not bright enough, naive etc etc.

What a sensible bloke. They should sign him immediately nonetheless. Excellent judgement, so often missing in the political elite.

What does that mean……do a UKIP on him and force him to become party leader ?

Sensible bloke, clearly realised even this early just how obtrusive media attention is going to be, not only on him, but on his entire family, as well as his g/f and hers, as well as friends and relations, and decided it’s not a price of admission to the upper levels of government.
Anyone who seeks power, is often not worthy of having it.

It seems like lots of people want there to be some ulterior motive. Maybe there is, but the reasons he’s given seem completely reasonable. “Holy crap, being Labour leader looks like a shit job, what am I thinking”. Nobody else ever applied for a job then realised they didn’t want it?

Erm, having been in front line politics for some years now, do you think he might not have realised quite a bit earlier? Is he really expecting people to believe that he’s surprised that he’s being scrutinised? Did he somehow miss it happening to others?

Hence why it seems a very silly statement. As before, it either says that there already IS something bad about him that’s going to be released soon, or that a little more of that “scrutiny” would expose something bad about him.

“Not in the best interests of the party at this time….needs a more experienced hand to transition us through this period….etc” would have been a wiser spin on it.

*Edit – Good point, Northwind. I just think that having worked with/for/alongside the previous holder of that post he might have had a bit more insight than most in to the likely working conditions!

If the press had something they wouldn’t let it be known. They’d get bigger headlines waiting.

Coke and hookers don’t appear to be a barrier to a cabinet job these days.

So true. It’s a such relief when you discover Tories have been doing “normal” stuff like shagging whores and snorting cocaine instead of buggering and murdering little boys. 🙂
