selling my epic and going for hardtail.
it'll be used for mainly longer moor rides where i won't take my SS.
any suggestions ?

Pace ,the steel one
Orbea, the carbon one.
Orange R8 unless you want more than 120 mm forks had ridden full suss for 4 years before geting the r8 and cannot see me going back to full suss mind you i do mainly xc type riding as no mountains in norfolk
what's the scandal like for all day trail riding, seems light enough and i already know that i suit the on one geometry (having owned 456/and slotty inbred)
Soul (lighter than 456 or Inbred) or if you're as your name suggests then a Bfe
And I've owned both an Inbred and a Cotic and the Cotic wins every time.
Sanderson Life
A carbon scott scale
danti, i really like the soul just lurvely!! i ride a 16" inbred so im guessing the soul should be the same size, how do the sizes compare?
grump, not looked at them will do now
dyls, erm carbon not my thang but thanks.
My Whyte 19C is lush!
What size is your Epic? I have a medium Epic and found the 18" Inbred and medium Soul were spot on.
a Ragley mmmbop or Ragley Blue Pig...
steve my epic is med, but reckon i'd feel like i was riding a gate on an 18" inbred, i like my frames small and (for the want of a better word) 'chuckable'
elaine, i didnt think of them, will have a looksie
Niner Carbon Air9
fmh - I had a 16 inbred and now have a 16 soul. Soul is marginally shorter but little in it... I'm just over 5ft, 7.
I've got a scandal too and its a total riot, great for all day riding and great finish imo.
Hope that helps the decision!
I have done quite a few long rides, ie 4-7 hours, on my Scandal and its very comfy and light without feeling nervous on the downs. Doing 10@kirroughtree solo on it next week.
interesting about the scandal (as its more in my price bracket) so may go for that, are they ok for drop offs small jumps etc?
I'd have thought so. I have a 456 as well so that's what I use for when I go a bit gnarly. But i have done smallish drops, jumps and steps on it quite happily.
I think you'd need to try both the medium and small Souls as they are a bit shorter in the top-tube than the Inbred. If the medium Epic fitted you well then the medium Soul should too.
What about something like this- http://kinesisdecade.co.uk/product.php?id=2
I've had a couple of Kinesis frames (riding and XC Pro 3 atm) always very comfy to ride.
James
epicsteve i dont know anyone with a soul, i have dropped him a mail though so see what he says..
muir, i'll mail them too and see what they say..
fmh - I've done small drops etc and its been fine. I run mine with 100mm forks though so nothing 'gnarly'. I'm sure they used to be warranted to 130mm forks so plenty string enough for normal biking. Really are nice frames imo.
+1 for Kinesis Maxlight XCPro3 - Fantastic - Rode it today on the Dartmoor killer loop - last time I did it on my own I did it in 4.30 - did it in 3.22 this time - Coooool

foxy your in my neck of the woods then im a plymptonite,
my riding buddy julian wilson off of here had the xcpro...felt wierd to me.
rob says 100mm max on website for t but thats all good as i'll swap my fox over from my epic they're 100mm.
I spent a few weeks/month getting it into the right riding position. I had an XC2 before this with similar geom - Goes like a rocket and came down the cleave (Nutcrackers) with no probs today with 100mm forks on so....

BTW I am a Bovey Boy
where did you get it from foxy? price?
its different from jules?
I got the XCPro3 from UKBikeStore - £399 - someone on here got lucky and used his CRC 10% and cash back and got it for about £355

Have Fox Float RL 120's on it reduced to 100mm which is spot on
Guys,
The link was for the decade virsa, thought it might be more up your street.
But yeah, the XC Pro 3 is hell of a smooth ride, feels smoother than the full sus i was riding before!
Oh, and i'm riding it with Reba team Maxle 120s on.

racing it tomorrow for the first time.
James
+1 for smoothness - all the stiffness of the alu XC2 but not the harsh rear end for bunpy hardpacked trails and rocks etc IMHO
Goes uphill like a rocket
hhmmmmm i really like the look of that, and if its man enough for me to thrash around on it around dartmoor/quantox then im interested!!
im 13st though
any sizing recomendations..im 5'9
I got 44.5cm and I am 6ft - so your prob half way between sizes - depends if you like bikes on the small side for chuckability or on the large size for stability? Well I been down some fairly tech / bumpy stuff and all is fine so far
Yeah, i'm heavier, riding a medium and am roughly the same height as you.
I'm sure the sizes are in cm though, i'll try and get the exact size for you tomorrow before i leave.
38cm equates to 14"
44.5 = 17.5"
Kinesis looks nice, Scott is awesome too.
I have a nice 17" lightly used Beone Killerbee HT raceframe in the garage - X-Fusion Alloy, megalight and goes like stink...
...could be open to offers (includes XTR Front Mech and FSA Team Carbon crankset)
yeah it was me that got the frame for £355 with the crc 10% and some cashback site. Cant really comment on the ride cos its not built yet, still waiting for 2011 forks to fully materialise etc but am VERY interested in how it rides with 120mm. The size guide is very misleading, i went for a medium and could have gone small but i already have a small hardtail.
