On a ruffty tuffty hardtail for a 120kg rider.

Options on the bike I’m considering are…

    Velvets as standard
Sweeps for an extra £75 (over the standard price)
Revelations for an extra £125 (over the standard price)
Pikes for an extra £275 (over the standard price)

Are any of these worth the extra cost?

I’ve been running 2009 dual air uturn revs the only real issue is that I seem to get a lot of brake flutter in the stanchion only a couple of months after service!
My spares for it are marazochi 55rs, no flutter involved.
On the full suss I have Fox 36 Floats…..huge vented floating discs with tech evo v4 brakes so no flutter issues even in the alps.
I’m heavier than you by the way!
So after all the above, you know what I’m going to say……either marazochi in fat stanchion guise or similar Fox 36 or maybe at a push the Pikes and make sure you have an adequate set of brakes for your weight and any hooligan riding.

    That’s not making it easier!

Sweeps is what I would have 34mm stanchions comapred to 32mm on the Revs and Velvets. I have read that the pikes would be the stiffest with 35mm stanchions but they are a lot more.

    Another £200 for the Pikes – £1350 vs £1550 – vs Sweeps.

They are too flexy under the load they have to carry.

Stout diameter forks are what the stouter gentlemen requires. Xfusions sound like the right choice but Pikes are well trendy and will certainly get you laid.

    Pikes.

Thru axle – stops the legs walking
Tapered steerer – stops the forks twanging backwards and forwards
Big stanchions – stops the forks flexing from side-to-side

    Take your pick

You can’t beat the sweeps for value. I’ve got slants. Can’t fault them. I weigh 100kg.

As a married man, I am fairly confident that the purchase of another bicycle will not result in me immediately putting MrsTGA to the sword.

Sweeps (says the 100kg ex Rev Slant owner).

2015 Fox 36’s if you can splurge the cash, all reports seem to indicate they are considerably stiffer than even the Pikes.
