My boss turned up in one of these yesterday. OH-58 Kiowa. In the same colour scheme, only more faded/dirty, still with all US Army markings, and no civillian reg-no visible. Very much a "Rat Look " helicopter.
He went way up in my estimations!

Interesting. Is it his, or is Peter Jackson broadening his collection? 😆

No idea but I suspect it's a big 4×4 as he's American, living in the Midwest and likes hunting (with guns).

    Nice bloke though. Go figure.

Passat Estate. He's one of the most boring men on the planet. Not sure if his choice of car reflects this (sorry STM!)
Looks a bit like this, but not ginger

As the boss I reserve the right to drive my diesel t5 ! But I have a 911 as well which maybe balances it out a bit 🙂

Mine drives an Aston Martin DB9, previously a TVR Tuscan. But he still can't give me a pay rise over the last three years, or pay me £2k in overtime I accrued over 3 months last year…

Octavia VRS, or Peugot Bippa van. I prefer the Bippa, it looks like a scale model of a van, but is actually quite spacious inside and surprisingly nippy when loaded for a 1.4 deisel.

Did you really? Lordy, you kept it quiet though… 🙂

It's actually a "BippER" isn't it? Great little vans though and an inspired name.

My boss and I are similar in income but radically different in how we spend it. Her house isn't very appealing IMO but she drives a newish Z4 whereas I have a battered Puma.

My boss has a Merc S Class, Porsche 911 of some sort, BMW M3 . . . . and a Fiat Panda because he wants to save money on petrol when running around locally!!!!

She drives a C Class of some sort.

TBH, I could afford to drive a C-Class, too, but fail to see the point in spending all that on a car. Mrs North and I drive a Mazda.

BMW 3 series estate – the seats are always covered in sand as he spends all his free time on the beach with his family or surfing.

Plus he has an entry level specialized mtb and a trek roadbike.

My boss has an old Land Rover Discovery but occasionally commutes on a Cannondale Bad-Boy.

He's had two bikes under the bike-to-work scheme but I can't remember what the other ones is, although I'm pretty sure it's a mountain bike and probably another snap-and-fail.

The chairman of our SME has his own racing team, so drives this:

I think he has a few.

    I'm sure that's a pricier hobby than mtb'ing!

My own boss, I drive a Passat and a Prius, although not at the same time 🙂

The boss of the department of the company I am contracted too drives… well not sure actually. BMW perhaps.

The person I am reporting to at work drives a Mini Cooper.

Is this interesting in any way?

Mol – what do you do? Contracting? Always interested in others that do their own thing.

    That helicopter is DAMN cool.

    The 430 isn't bad either 😉

Mat, I am an IT contractor, so it's kind of self employment, kind of not. The more specialist you get and the older you get the more it becomes like being a consultant working for yourself, and less like being a temp worker.

Mol – I remember now! I was an IT Recruitment "consultant" (heavily abused word used in recruiting IMO) for a couple of years – it was booming at the time (1997-1999) then went travelling for six months, came back and it has died on it's ar5e! I still feel guilty for making good money from the y2K "bug!"

    And he's a top chap.
Keep telling him to get a bike but he's not bitten yet.

Heh.. recruitment agents are a mixed bag. There are hoards of phone jockeys who call you up and ask if you have a, b, and c then send a big pile of CVs over. Then there are a very few who actually do their job properly and try and find the right person for their client.

And the Y2K bug was real, it's just that so much work was done on fixing it.

What do you do that makes you your own boss?

    Surf-Mat
    Free Member

Mol – run a PR company with my wife.

TBH I did well in IT recruitment by actually bothering to learn the stuff I was "selling" – not actual coding but I spent a lot of time researching just so I knew I wasn't talking BS – if really helped and seems rare in the industry.

We hired all the contractors for the start up of Connect Austria (Orange in Austria) – that was a biggie. Plus a few banks, utilities companies, etc. It was good fun at the time and a good salary for a 22-24 year old.
