Am used to 40 Nm (tight) 60 Nm (‘kin tight) and even 120 Nm (‘kin hell) but 5 Nm? Is that like finger tight + one turn

    More/less 😕

it feels surprisingly gentle, and 7nm feels surprisingly tight.

Pick up a 5nm Torque Key from somewhere- it’s an amazingly useful tool.

My proper torque wrench gets very little use comparatively.

And it made my reverb work properly- I was over tightening the seatclamp and stopping the post moving smoothly.

In fact I would say the two most important additions to my toolkit this year are the torque key and fibergrip. Now nothing is overtightened…

The strength I would use to choke a small shrew but only to teach it a lesson. Any more and I think i’d hurt it. Yes I’m talking about your Mr Shrew enjoying my shed like it was no ones business. 7nm next time!

Tighter than 4nm but a little less tight than 6nm.

Buy a torque wrench. I picked up a Sealey one from Amazon for £23.99 and its been fantastic.

think ‘nipple clamps’ – tight enough to feel the benefit, not so tight that you start to worry about permanent damage.

You’ll need a 1.5m breaker bar and a 15 stone gorilla to hang off it. When both are at max, veins distended, eyeballs popping etc, that’s exactly 5nm.

As always with anything (especially alloy) tighten it till you feel the threads strip and then back it off 1/4 of a turn.

    What’s wrong with the Ritchey?
