I’m fed up with my cheap stud detector basically being rubbish and ending up cutting holes to find the studs. Can anyone recommend one that works and doesn’t cost an arm an a leg (expensive is OK, body parts not).

We’ve just had a massive swap out at work from some no name piece of junk to a Bosch jobby with a nice hole to mark your hole through it. Company must have purchase tens of thousands…

Electric razors aren’t just for shaving! Place the head of your electric razor on your wall, switch the razor on and slowly move along the wall. As soon as the tinny hum of the razor turn to a deep, resonating hum you have found your stud. You won’t miss the difference in sound, it is quite an obvious change.

    A few Neodymium magnets?

Slide along wall till they find the nail/screw heads in the stud.

Obviously only works if there are nail/screw heads to find, but certainly meets the “cheap” criteria.
