I was at a well known North Wales trail centre today. I stopped at the side of the trail to have a break. Some guy pulls up alongside me and says “I bet you think you’re dirt on that” pointing at my bike, then off he went. What did that mean?

it probably meant he was jealous

Pics are needed (of the bike).

Or is it possible you misheard him?

I was supposed to be meeting a guy called Dirk today and you never can trust those photos used in the ads, can you?

It’s code. He wanted to adjust your sag.
And by adjust, I mean suck.
And by sag, I mean penis.
If you know what I mean.

Sounds like one of these advocates of “You shouldnt be allowed to ride a 6″ travel 24 grand bike if you cant ride like (insert DH hero here) ”

Pic of the offending bike. Now, I’m not an attention seeking whore, I just like the way it rides.

Note the stress in the sentence was on the word dirt with a rising intonation “I bet you think you’re dirt on that” He then made off down a trail that hadn’t been officially opened yet, signs saying such.

    Could’ve asked him?

    Well, Urban Dictionary says:

    Dirt
Used as a label for a person that is low on the social ladder, either because of unfettered promiscuity, poor personal hygiene, or any other indicator of social status.

i.e. you look bad, and you should feel bad.

You mean CyB don’t you, you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villany.

    i think it means

I bet you are a riding god on the SS rigid you have there sir. Personally I need a skill compensator for I am inadequately equipped with riding skill. I shall compensate for these feelings of inadequacy by mocking you in a confusing and unclear manner. I am not worthy

    Granted their comment is catchier.

Maybe if I’d had 5 inches of suspension like he appeared to be sporting I’d have been able to join his gang.

So basically he thinks I’m a ponce.

    It was at Llandegla.

Basically I think he meant it to mean – “you think you look so cool on that, but in reality everyone thinks you look like a total knobjockey”…..

Well thats what I would mean if I said such a thing….

I rode my 5″ skills compensator round Llandegla last weekend, and I’d not let you join my gang either with that brown saddle and black grips combo 😆

If you are taking offence at my comment, sorry was a joke, I think them Singulars are ace. If you are taking offence at the bloke at Llandegla, why would you care?

When in doubt, I assume that people are being nice to me.
If they want to be nasty then they are at least going to need to be clear about it.
Maybe he was actually complementing your bike.

Ask a translation specialist but I think he was from…

Maybe he meant “I bet you are awesome on that bike” or “I bet you think you are but you are not awesome on that bike”.

Who cares, he’s a prat, go enjoy your bike!

Actually this reminds me when my brother had a moped. Waiting at traffic lights, a young lad pulled up alongside on a trendy scooter. He turned and said to my brother “is that a bog seat?” My brother was furious as the lad set off on his way.

Turns out a Honda c90 is nicknamed a “bog seat” which his moped looked like (Honda Sky)

Hmm pretty much sums it up.

He was feeling sorry for you, probably thought your mum and dad couldn’t afford to buy you a proper bike..

Me and a mate were waiting for another mate in a lay-by in a fairly remote part of the lakes when a chavved up fiesta went past, the guys wound down their windows and shouted “wheels go round” with some feeling. Which was a bit odd and tbh unnecessary, as cyclists we’re well aware of the actual mechanism!

However we then used the phrase as a form of encouragement, insult and warning to the probable confusion of anyone who heard us…

or maybe dirt was meant to mean ‘ bad ass ‘

so he was saying that ‘you probably think you are bad ass’ but in a negative way as in ‘ NOT’ from the 90s – he was being an arse but hey its an easy trail centre ridden by wrexhamites riding stolen bikes who are on the dole… I wouldnt worry about it….

ss is easy peasy at degla 35-19 on a 29er moshes up everything without a problem. The only issue is the slow wheezy geary boys getting in the way on the switchback climbs on the black 😆

merlinshearer – 32-18 and seemed fine, maybe could have gone 19 or 20 on the back but I’m unfit. The bar ends make a massive difference climbing though but get in the way a bit on the downs.

There are some really nice swoopy downhill bits at Llandegla, hadn’t been there before but liked it. The cafe is pretty good too.

Cheers ds3000 – used to live 30 minutes away from Llandegla so know it quite well! I then moved to East of the UK about 3 years ago and now ride a SS during winter running 38-18 or 38-16. Will be back in Wales in a few weeks and was thinking of having a go on the SS at LLandegla, thanks for the info!

He meant you’ve stoped for a rest on a family trail and not spread your picknick blanket out and i’m on a hardcoretrailmincemachine and we can never be friends even though i’d like to bum you and you look like you’d like to bum me.
