Can anyone recommend me a decent acoustic for 150-300 squid?

I’ve been putting off learning for years

Yamaha seems like the top recommendation at the sub £500 price point.. But I’d love to get a couple of opinions/ experiences

Want to be playing bluesy folky stuff – Tim Buckley, Taj Mahal, Ry Cooder, Dylan etc. If that helps identify the kind of ‘tone’ I’m after?

This is the first song I want to learn 😀

    Cheers for any pointers

Bought my daughter an Adam Black for a little over £200. Great piece of kit. Can’t fault it really. Beautifully finished. pick up, preamp/tuner, XLR… And it even sounds nice too!

To be honest though, for less than £300 though being picky over tone is a bit much to ask. Look for the ones that are well finished, good action, neat and tidy fretwork, and have quality hardware (machine heads in particular).

Or, if you know your stuff get on over to ebay… If you dare.

excuse my ignorance – but what makes fretwork ‘tidy’/good/whatever? ❓

    Yamaha.

    Can’t wrong really

edit: well built, nice clean frets, not uneven, not sharp edges, straight

Learning guitar at the moment and bought a Takamine G320 in black:

Cost me £160, which isn’t too much for a good quality guitar as so far I’ve demonstrated limited talent for playing it.

I’m not up to date but Crafter were doing some brilliant guitars at this price a few years back…

LAG – yeah I’m just recommending what I’ve got 🙂

It’s really nicely made and looks and sounds great – honestly everyone who plays it can’t believe it cost so little (and I work in a music education centre with lots of musicians). We have Yamaha guitars at work too which are decent but nowhere near as nice as the LAG at a similar price point imo. The DI output is ridiculously good for the price too.

It’s this one, don’t know if you can still get it – http://www.musicradar.com/tuition/guitars/10-best-acoustic-guitars-under-300-217607/6

I guess the successor would be something like this – http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/LAG-Tramontane-T66DCE-Dreadnought-Electro-Acoustic-Cutaway/J57

Or these if you just want acoustic.
