My Nomad is perfectly happy to be pedalled about. Weighs in about 33lb without any silly light build stuff. Works great.

I have an Alpine (for sale!) and I find it a bit lardy and the bottom bracket is too low.

It's great pointing down stuff but not so much fun (IMO) on the ups.

Trek Remedy? Mine pedals OK for a 6-incher, hard work, for sure, but I can ride up all the stuff I would do on my XC bike without needing to get off and push.

    Nope 🙂

Just my honest opinion on the bike. Plenty of people love 'em. I've always preferred a slightly higher BB is all.

Had the same issue with my Demo 8. Lovely bike, but I was forever clouting the ground with pedals as the BB was low.

Got me an 09 spicy frame a few months back. Climbs better than the 5 it replaced and descends like a mini dh bike. Only problem i have with it is it can make some flatter/undulating trail feel boring as its long and slack (although you'll probably get this with most bikes in this catagory).
Theres probably not much in it with the frames youve chosen…

Easy, Pronghorn Trail. We've got a demo in that weighs around 27lb and is better than my steel hardtail on the climbs. That's with 150mm of travel too.

Nomad with 36 talas here. Reckon I could get it under 30lb with a change of tyres (2.5 HRs) and crankset, but I'm waiting till they pack up.

It's a great bike you wont be disappointed.

Another vote for the Spesh Enduro or Pitch here.

What about a Giant Reign or a TranceX, though?

DrRSwank got any details on the Alpine? Saw a guy riding the red route at dalby on an orange one, and was quite taken with it….

Antyone got any experiences of the new transition covert?
Are they even for sale in the UK yet? Can't seem to find one.
DrRSwank how much is your alpine up for?

Seeing as you have a Heckler on that list, you should consider a Orange 5 also.

A supremely capable bike and incredibly versatile depending on how its built up. Abit of a marmite bike though.

Heckler. Just put Van 36's on the front. A bit wandery on the climbs put dead good coming down.

DrRSwank…I don't suppose you fancy an Ellsworth Moment, higher BB than the Alpine(med 06) in PX for your Alpine frame ❓ assuming the Apine is a med

you can probably get a really good deal on an 09 Enduro SL at the moment, with the new one just out. Love mine.

Another one for the Tracer, its the best bike I've ever ridden, I'm only a wee chap and it climbs better than any other bike I've owned (there's been lots). Mine has 36's as its too steep with a 140mm fork and I leave it in the 140 setting at the back, it weighs just over 28lbs with mostly XT stuff and Mavic ST wheels. Wheelbase have them in their demo fleet, its best to try as many as you can first.
    Hope this helps.

I too own a 5 but am well aware of it's faults/negatives and don't expect everyone to share my opinions.
