I hacked around 75% of the internal walls of my house with a makita sds, cost around £130. Still works fine and well worth the money.

check that the drill has a rotary stop for chiselling – the ones around £100 often don’t. Other than that theres not really that much the choose between the brands you’ve mentioned.

I have literally just been looking into these myself. The two Bosch blue on Screwfix look ‘OK’ so would also be interested in suggestions!

No experience of anything else but dewalt SDS still requiring an awful lot of restraint here after about 5 years I think. Are you sure you’re ready for the power? It comes with great responsibility! 😀

Oh, and if you get up to 16mm+ drill bits into concrete (for ground anchors for example), take care with your wrists!

I used to have the Bosch 2400 from screwfix, got it on special with a free 12v blue driver included for 99 quid!

It was an excellent tool, nice long cable and good size case to keep the bits in. Unfortunately it got nicked back in Feb.

    Bought this to replace it

On paper It’s much more powerful but in use I preferred the Bosch

for a small SDS like what you are after I like the Bosch and Makita ones.

If you want something for doing some heavier DIY work then in all seriousness look out for one of the large SDS drills from Aldi. I picked one up for £30-35 about 6 years ago and have done lots of knocking down and drilling with it (25mm dia x 1m long bits) and I finally broke it back in January.

I was looking for something to replace it but in the end I called the free-phone number on the drill and the nice German lady emailed me a parts diagram and I emailed her back with the parts i needed – I had stripped the gear on the armature so needed a whole armature, the gear it mates with and a the motor bearing as it wouldn’t come off. The grand total including shipping was £16 and they threw in some more bearings and seals. Drill is back in action.
