  • Weekend ferries back from Calais – OK not to book?

Driving back from Chamonix on the 21st, not sure when we’ll leave on the Saturday, might push it to Sunday, might stop somewhere and pick up some wedding booze on the way.

P&O Ferries are pretty much every hour. Do they get fully booked, several in a row, or can you almost always get on the next one leaving? Is there much difference in the on-the-day price compared to online?

Hoping for (truthful!) responses along the lines of “You’ll be fine, I go regularly and always get on without a booking.”

    Cheers!

(Booking on the way out, because it’s Easter, and I can’t hang about.)

It’s about 130 euros if you just turn up and buy a ticket at the port. Best to book even a few hours in advance to save a packet.

We’ve always booked in advance, if we turned up early, they’d put us on the next boat. sometimes they charge 10 euros. I doubt if I’d turn up without a reservation.
