Don’t know his recent stuff but Transformer, Berlin, Rock and Roll Animal and Coney Island Baby are all pretty amazing. Not to mention the stuff he did with the Velvet Underground

    So I’d say yes.

I do like the way Lou Reed is obviously singing along to a completely different song.

He’s never been able to sing, and he is the very essence of ‘curmudgeonly’, but yes he was good, particularly the early stuff, up to ‘New York’ (for me).

Saw Steve Earle last Thursday, did this song. Got to say, the show was a bit hit and miss for me but i always find i absolutely love some songs and others are a bit ‘meh’.

Have you seen Wim Wenders’ film, ‘Far Away, So Close’? He’s good (and extra-cool) in that too.

Not as good as Peter Falk in ‘Wings of Desire’, though. 😀

    Hell yes, and massively influential.

To add to the videos, a 9-minute version of What Goes On, prob my favourite Velvets song:

Despite what I sometimes say on here, I don’t believe in good or bad music, just a subjective approach to noise. 😀

I took this back after one listen.
And no, I didn’t swap it for Trout Mask Replica.

    Ah, Metallica.

What happens to music if you remove every last vestige of fun and humour.
    😉

You can’t have Heavy Metal without humour – not in Britain anyway.
It’s far, far too silly for that.

Both Lou Reed and Metallica have produced some turkeys in their time. And some legendarily good stuff too. And let’s not forget that one of the reasons people love them is they stand up for doing your own thing.
Which is what they’ve done here. I reckon give it some time. I remember when I first started listening to non-pop music that the best stuff was often the hardest to access on the first few listens…

Not one the UO of GB’s better numbers but it was nice to see a mate of mine playing 🙂

Good God no, but the music Metallica make is the sound of Metal disappearing up it’s own fundament.

I don’t think the British take Metal TOO seriously, unlike some other areas (Scandinavia and the US, for example).

We tend to love it in an ironic, self depreciating manner.
That’s why we spawned Motorhead and Napalm Death, not Metallica and Slayer. 🙂

    Lou Reed = legend.

Nearly as great as Iggy 🙂

    Together … chuffing AWFUL!

Stand out for me last night though, were the funky brass band from New Orleans.
