I’ve been using VLC for a while to watch DVDs at lunchtime.

All of a sudden, it’s started popping up roman numerals in the bottom left corner of the screen, seemingly at random. As the video plays, “VIII” will appear for a second then fade, then a minute or two later it’ll go “V” or some such. Doesn’t seem to have any relation to chapters or, well, anything I can see.

I’ve obviously caught a random keystroke but, anyone know what it is and more importantly, how I get rid of it? Google has drawn a blank.

Hm. It seems to pop up whenever the scene changes to a different camera.

VLC in roman numerals is 5 before fifty before a hundred which is 55 which looks like the SS. Scary. Makes you think.

…makes me think about primary school arithmetic. 100-50-5 = 45?

VLC is like a mountain biker, it doesn’t like roads. Install Linux.

Is it just VLC or do you have a problem in other apps as well?

There is a quick option within VLC to delete prefs.

    Tools>Prefs>Delete Prefs
