If you have some via ferrata equipment, there was a failure in Aug 2012 which resulted in a fatality. Both lanyards on the elasticated via ferrata set broke.

A number of manufacturers and products are involved in this warning:

Please pass this onto anyone that you know who has via ferrata equipment.

Cheers for that, have quite a few bits, although most are the old style knuckle duster EAD which you set up yourself using climbing rope threaded through them.

There was a recall on some Edelrid sets last year.
what brand was the failure in?

The probe found that that the lanyard’s strength was dramatically affected after intensive use not only because of its specific construction but also due to the material used.

So a poor design/materials than when intensively used, fails. Most people never get anywhere near the life/’use’-span of their kit. We chew through krab, belay devices, ropes etc at work – but they are used 6 hours a day, 7 days a week for 10 months a year….even then, we have had no failures, as inspection and reasonable pessimism prevails.
