I have been trying to cure a creek. Having logically narrowed it down to the BB I removed the cups and checked them (nice free turning, no play) regressed the threads and replaced – creek still present. Changed the BB out for a spare on and wonderful silence. So feeling pretty sure the BB was to blame.
Anyone else had one fail in this way?

Odd…folk often find a creak goes away when a component is replaced – but often it’s loose/dry pedal or crank threads etc.

    Can’t explain this though!

slightly damaged bearing or race, maybe dry inside?

Or maybe a Crank installation thing and the second time something changed?

Sometimes things can creak when there is not anything dramatically wrong. Makes the creaks hard to track down. In my experience BB do creek after a while, then the creek goes away, then they die (assuming you don’t replace them)

    Normally its a pedal (or a seatpost/saddle).
