I ride my rigid hardtail on a mixture of road and off road and am currently riding Michelin XC Hard terrain 2″ tyres (which I love) at about 40-45psi. The Michelin tyres haven’t been in production for some years and I’m looking at possible replacements.

I quite like the look of Vittoria Booze Light but they’re 2.3″ and very high volume (potentially quite nice on a rigid bike). I’m vaguely aware that for a given tyre pressure, stress on the rims increases with the tyre volume so I’m a little unsure whether I need to be mindful of this with my rims. My wheelset is built on Sun Ringle Inferno 25 rims.

PS: your rims will be fine

With higher volume tyres, you generally run lower pressures. Running 2.3″ tyres won’t make any real-world difference to the stress on your rims.

I wouldn’t worry about the rims, frame clearance could be very tight though, particularly the rear, if its more a hybrid/commuter frame.

This is a 2.1 racing ralph on carrera hard tail frame, rims are 27/33mm.
