Why is it that I read through the start of some threads and think – they’re talking p!sh but you wont catch me getting drawn into their world of made up quotes and hatstand-science, then slowly I find myself drawn to the keyboard and against all common sense I reply.
It never does any good and I just end up regretting it.
One of the following reasons??
Murphys third law of thermodynamics
78 % of users do the same according to a recent study
The fault of God , Darwen or Dawkins (delete insert as appropriate)
No matter how dull or ill informed on the topic it still beats doing the job I am paid to do
SFB
They did, but Fred/RudeBoy came back.
SFB is just the English TJ and will say that sh** is sugar to get a rise out of people – sort of trolling I guess. Trolling mixed with a little OCD.
basically, when someone says ‘troll’ they mean ‘I can’t be bothered to think about this’ – which is fine, people have different abilities. I just don’t happen to believe that consensus is a useful alternative to analysis.
I was refering to trolls as those who spend their time arguing a point for the sake of arguement or argueing a point to deliberatley wind up other people.
All I said was I shouldn’t let myself get wound up and respond – if you guys want to spend all day arguing you can knock yourselves out. I’m off to the bike forum 😉
although I do enjoy argument as well, I do it in an attempt to dismantle uncritical superstition, not for its own sake. The only person that can wind you up is yourself.
Simon – which of us should be more offended by that? Dunno where the poster thinks I am from anyway.
I think there are actually two issues – folk like Simon and myself argue when we feel we have something to say and others don’t understand the point and we have points of view that are rather different to the majority view. I have tried not to be so argumentative recently anyway. that is not quite trolling in the classic sense of arguing a point merely to get a rise out of someone altho it is often confused.
Classic trolling is just arguing for the sake of it
Classic trolling is just arguing for the sake of it
But surely that’s what makes it fun? To realise that a load of people are probbly sitting there really, really wound up.
And you know it’s had the desirable effect, when individuals bear a grudge for ages, because of something you’ve said. Gives one a lovely warm feeling, knowing you’ve made a difference to their lives.
Sc-xc: that should be the new reply box. Brilliant!
