I’m looking for a mount for an Olympus tough camera so that I can mount it on my camelbak chest or shoulder strap. Does anyone know where I might get one without the full harness? ta

I adapted a GoPro mount to fit on the shoulder strap of a small rucksack. Then just fir one of the many GoPro to tripod screw adapters found on ebay and the likes.

I tried it, it doesnt really work as the straps are rarely as tight as they need to be, and the go pro chest mount is quite big/flat to give some stability, and still bruises in a crash!

Get a cheap go pro copy chest mount off ebay and a tripod addapter, it’ll still be <£10. The mounts quite a bit lower than rucksack chest straps too.

Thanks Colin – I’ll have a look at chest, shoulder and wrist mounts and see if I can come up with something similar. I guess there is a significant risk that all the footage will be on the piss unless I can get it to stay horizontal, which may be more difficult with the tripod screw added. I’ll have a play. It’s only for skiing anyway, and I am a less accomplished skier than I am a bike rider 😕

I’ve made improvised strap mounts too: the only one that came close to working needed a rigid piece behind the strap and a front piece to bolt down tight to it, then the camelbak straps tightened right down on you. Even with all that, it was pretty wobbly. The shoulder mounting harness that garmin do for the virb suffers similarly.

The Peak Design Capture POV mount does this. https://peakdesign.com/store/capturepov
It includes mounts for GoPro or tripod screw. I use this for carrying my camera when running/cycling, then unclip it to take a photo. I’ve not actually tried it for video clipped on the strap. It will depend on the straps, they do need to be pretty tight to stop it wobbling.

That’s the kind of thing. To get decent footage that’s not of your bars and the ground, it needs to be quite far up your shoulder.

Geoff – here’s a wee vid I shot to let you see how much the shoulder mount shakes.

Definitely less than ideal, though the terrain is pretty rough given it’s often icy footprints under a layer of powder snow.
