I know what portlyone means, we had wanted drama, suspense (literal and actual), a degree of panic and people rushing about shouting "don't panic..... keep calm... " a lot. But what do we get, ruthless efficiency Well done! You are legend.

Have tree surgeons been found out? Have they been selling snake oil to the HSE obsessed?

well done. but something has been bothering me while following this thread: what is a pool house? is it the place you get changed in next to your swimming pool? if so, where is the pool? or is it a place you play pool?
i am confused.

I like the way that you've protected your head from 10,000kg of falling wood with an orange plastic hat.

The Medal, Cloak and Mantle of Awesomness should forever remain around theneck and shoulders of Surf Matt.
I've started clearing up. As the sun is setting, it feels good to be alive and out doors.

This and the balance bike thread are my fave things on STW in years.
Good work all. As the old thought experiment goes:
"If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to
hearstart a thread on it, does it make a sound?"Posted 4 months ago # -
Top work.

*raises glass* - except i'm in work so it's a glass of water
Good work and I'm glad you survived to tell the tale! You can tell Forth Ports they can go ahead with the biomass plant at Rosyth now and you can keep them in fuel for the next decade or two; probably without putting much of a dent in your log stores!

Top work! Well done fella (double meaning there!)
What's your next brush with adrenaline going to be?
Posted 4 months ago # -
Excellent work - did you decide what sort of tree it was in the end? Beech or Sycamore?

What's your next brush with adrenaline going to be?
Watch this space. What elastoplast for......?
EDIT. I think it was more Beech than Sycamore.
Best face the music over at Arbtalk.

I must admit, I am finding it hard to temper my jealousy of McMoonters lovely home with my admiration of his tree felling skills.

How did you get the wire up the tree MC?
Whisper it, a 30ft ladder. It was waaaaay too scary to climb.

Well done McMoonter, top work! I'll say it again, (despite getting whinged at at the start of this thread) Proper man stuff. Well satisfying. Bet you are glad you didn't just get a man in now, think of the cash you've effectively earned, you can treat yourself to some shiny bike stuff now with a clear conscience!
