    What’s the score?
My house is an absolute prime target for panels, but free?

you rent your roof for the next twenty five years

Aye, t’was on Radio 4 today. “Which” advises people to read the contract’s small sprint carefully. You might get the free leccy from them, but you may not/probably will not get the surplus and the expensive feed in stuff.

Yup, you’re stuck with ’em for 25 years while the company gets rich from the feed in tariff and export payments. You’ll save a bit on yer electric of course. You might cut your bills by a third if you’re very, very lucky. On the plus side, after 25 years, when the panels are out of their performance warranty and giving out less than optimum performance, the 3rd or 4th inverter that has been fitted over the years (by the company, at their cost) is about to give up the ghost and all the cabling needs renewing, it’s all yours to keep.

If you are seriously considering solar, beg, steal or borrow the money and get your own system fitted.

That’s the whole point isn’t it. The company paying for the install collects all the feed in tariff.
