    We did:
The monastery in Belem and the tower at Belem
    The oceanarium
    The vertical street lift
    Tuk tuk ride
We didn’t have time for :
    The castle
    Tram 28

    Ace sea food and cafes
We were there recently for a day while on holiday up the coast at estoril.
Great city. Would have liked more time there.

Sintra and the moorish castle nearby.
Cascais is a pleasant place but continue from there to the Atlantic coast, fantastic wild coastline. There’s an old windmill or lighthouse that serves a great Mojito.

Nightlife – Bairro Alto and/or Las Docas.

    Belem was good
Cascais, Estoril and the Atlantic coast were also brilliant

Lisbon itself has a slightly down at heel grungy feel to it, but in a nice way.
Don’t bother with the queues for Tram 28 and walk the interesting bits.
That metal lift thing is mad!

Another vote for this. Lisbon’s lovely in a run-down, falling apart kind of way. Just wander around and enjoy it.

next time i am there i will take an audio recorder, go and stand under that big red bridge (Ponte de 25th of Avril?) late at night and record the eerie sounds of the cars coming over it.

while i am in the area, if i am feeling cool and hip and in the mood for some decent clubbing, i will hit the Lx Factory.

if not, I will trek up to Barrio Alto and hit some of those really cool little bars, especially the ones where people just get up and sing old Fado songs 🙂

Bairro Alto, for only a short hop to Portugal it feels properly different to anything in the UK. Edgy and slightly lawless in a good way – without feeling like you might be staring down the barrel of a Makarov at some point in the night – like certain other countries.

Institute of Port wine. Just at the top of the funicular in the centre. They have a catalogue of thousands you can try by the glass, they are in price order, just open the catalogue in the middle and point.

closes pretty early so make it your first port of call (gedditt, geddit?).

That area also has some nice bars too.
