Are there any members here on STW? Do you find there are signifiacnt benefits over simply shopping around between the various wine merchants?

Been a member for a long time. Only ever had one disappointing wine over the whole time and lotsof great ones. I really like them.

Mix buying from them, with local specialists and one chain

MY dad and all his mates swear by it. They say the prices are keen and some of the exhibition stuff you can pick up is seriously good. Can also visit them in Peterborough area I believe where they have a shop

I’ve been a member for yonks and love it.

Like THM, I use an independent specialist which is close by and really good, for when I just want a bottle or two. Then I tend to use the wine society for bigger orders.

You can do small orders with the society, but you have to pay a postage charge, so I tend to put in a case at a time.

In fact, it’s about time I got a christmas order in!

I have a few friends very knowledgeable in wine (inc tmh) who are members and who swear by it. I’ve been to a few dinners / tastings in London which are always excellent with good food, wine and interesting company plus of course the speakers. As per above its a society for the members and the mixed cases are well liked as well as the benefit of their buying power and expertease to get qualoty wines at good prices.

I’m not a member primarily as a regular visitor to France we buy our wines there including many directly from small suppliers on tasting trips / holidays to the wine regions.

My dad is into wine enough that he has two rooms in his cellar for it. He has been in the society for a long time and likes the deals and selection. We get sent a box occasionally and haven’t had a bad bottle in 6 years.

Very content and slightly pissed member here.

I love the variety, quality and service. I don’t have great knowledge of wine and make good use of their suggestions. I’d recommend joining without hesitation.

Do any STW’ers fancy forming a tasting club? 🙂

I am sooo pleased my taste buds are crap, here’s me enjoying one of Morrisons cheap Italian jobs (£3.92? a bottle) tastes lovely to me.

Reminds me of a bloke in an Italian restaurant in Durham (De Medici) years ago when a bloke was trying to impress his partner by tasting different wines brought to the table by the waiter, he finally plumped one one which he said was ‘more like it’ only to be told he’d already tried it 4 or 5 tastes before. Same bottle!

Another very happy member here (just taken delivery of 2 cases of better quality wine for Christmas and New Year). Their “Wine without fuss” scheme works well (you set up a plan to receive cases at whatever regularity suits and can cancel deliveries when the home “wine lake” becomes excessive…..)

Yep, been a member for several years. Pretty much everything we have bought has been really good. “The Society’s” and Exhibition wines are great examples of their type. We tend to buy Portugal/ Chile/ Argentina/ Italy for value and them move into classic regions via the Fine Wine “Small Wonders” list, with very occasional excesses (like a ’59 Vouvray Molleux which was actually worth it…).

Enjoying the fruits of a “World Classics” cellar plan we started a few years ago – £28 a month yields 2 cases a year of really good new world and allegedly second tier old world wines, but very carefully chosen examples. Also starting to get a bit of en primeur stuff coming through, which is a good way to buy classics.

We buy wine on holidays and use a local wine seller for stuff (Drinkmonger in Edinburgh who I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend) but Wine Soc is the mainstay of our drinking.

It’s good. And their cheap stuff is reliable. I love their verdicchio and their Spanish Monastrel,,

    Member here too.
I do have the advantage of working just down the road from the showroom so popping in is easy.
I think we have had 1 bottle that we didn’t like in several years
But that said have had lots of fantastic ones for way less than they would be anywhere else.
Had a fantastic barolo from them a few weeks back and they also had a great deal on paulliac
