Sometimes you feel like you are flying. That is my favourite bit.

Tired, crap day at work, full of cold, horrible day tomorrow. I won't commute due to the need to cough up a lung. I will soon though and I'll love it. just rideing is one of the things I never regret and always enjoy.

    Cycling is a religion

It's better than walking and you can get away from the police more easily.

It's the only form of exercise thats enjoyable.

    Getting air.

The feeling when you clean a tough climb.

"practising" stoppies down Hatch Lane after a few jars at the Crown & remembering the startled baby badger (live one so perhaps not to your taste) that was struggling to climb the bank & kept rolling down the bank last time you pootled past in the dark

Being out and watching the world go bye, not too quickly, not too slowly.
Then zooming down a huge hill and feeling like an 8 year old 🙂

It's just the best way to move around without the need for an engine.

Great exposure to the environment too.

    -Its healthy exercise.
-It makes me feel alive and free
-It gives me such a massive rush riding fast, clearing a climb or surviving a scary bit
-It has enabled me to meet a whole load of wonderful people who are now friends
-It puts me in a pub after a long night ride for a few beers with mates.
-The feeling of being the last man alive on the moors in the dark on a deep winters night ride.
-Taking my daughters round 'Degla and Gisburn and watching them whoop with adrenalin too.

    Everything 🙂

But there is the odd occasion when:

You are riding along, the sun is shining, you are feeling fit, strong and the riding just seems easy, you enter a nice bit of the trail, then it hits you; the hairs stand up on the back of your neck, you take a big breath in and no matter what you do you can’t stop the big smile coming on your face and you feel at one with the world.

Nothing really. It's pretty lame when you think about it. But I don't think ever, so it never gets lame for me. 🙂

You get to feel the wind in what remains of your hair (in my case) and forget about all the little things in your life as you avoid the sticks, dogpoo and other stuff on the trail.

the rains hitting the window and your miserable for it but you drag your bike out anyway, you pedal down your street wondering why. round the corner and into the back lanes gathering speed now, onto the main road, you fly past the cars, dreary faces looking half dead already in their metal coffins. drop into the park and down the hill, strength and energy pumping through you, the rain forgotten. pedal hard into the woods and hit the trails, left, right, left, faster and faster with the wind in you hair your as free as the birds above you

The wind in my hair, rain in my face, mud in my teeth.
On a sunny day-slogging to the top of something then sitting down to take in the view.
The silence and beauty of an empty hill or piece of moorland.

Sharing memories of "epic" days out with mates old and new.
Comparing scars and telling stories of crashes and days in the saddle over a few beers with sore legs and a smile.

    It's quicker than walking/running.

It satisfies my male need for buying mechanical stuff.

It's good for you – very little joint impact too.

I can fettle it without risking killing people (like with a car).
