Looks at somewhere to ride on Monday, and as it is a bank holiday, I was looking at avoiding too many walkers – so was thinking about Wharcliffe.

Having never been before the main questions are –
    Is it any good?
Is it easy to navigate round?
Is it worth an hour drive?

My other options were to try a route along the Long Mynd or just to go a play around Cannock Chase (local to me)

    What do you reckon?

I've been there and wasn't that impressed.
Probably good if you're an uber-downhiller and like really steep downhills (and it isn't muddy, which it probably is).

is it worth an hour drive

    probably not.

if you want to ride DH, it's worth it. If you want to ride XC go to the peaks. There are XC tracks and so on, but you'll need locals knowledge to make it a worthwhile distance.

It's great for downhill. I'd rather spend a day in the Long Mynd though tbh. Hard/boring fire road climbs but the descents are awesome (especially Minton Batch). Probably full of walkers over bank holiday though I guess 🙁

Thats my problem – Being a bank holiday (and with today being a wash out) there will be tons of walkers about. Thats why I was thinking a trail centre or similar – at least we're all going in the same direction 😀

    I agree with comments above.

    Yes it's awesome (for DH)
Yes it's easy to find the (DH) tracks
Yes it's well worth the drive (if you're doing DH)

If doing XC it's probably no on all counts.
