    ha ha mboy, i was at the bottom when he exited that descent – controlled would not be the word I’d use!

    Yeah, it does look like quite a few riders (inc Pete Lloyd 340) were walking that trail in the photos! Neil does like them steep and loose and very fresh cut. Possibly chalk this one up as a lesson learnt and to allow some bedding in time or alternatives. Probably would have been better to use all the Enduro trails that he’s used in the past. Slightly bedded in and proven trails.
    Give him his credit though – making many new trails for each event 🙂

    Having had a look at at those photo’s I think this one best represents the approach I’d have taken;

    I can see in the wet it would be tricky for all but the best but it doesn’t look unrideable.

    Those pictures are fantastic, credit to the photographer. Head and shoulders above any event photos I have seen.

    To be fair, the route was supposed to take in that trail twice but he re-routed the second half of the course due to the conditions

    Looking at the pics in the link, it does look like typical off piste Welsh mud, (which I am used to riding). I can see it being a bit of a bitch for a lot of riders though!

    I’ve only been riding a year now and decided on a whim to do this event. It was very different to the nice, flowy and fast trails I’ve been doing for the last year. The 1st downhill section I can say without embarrassment I totally bottled as it was way outside my comfort zone. By the time I reached the 3rd gnarly section I’d got a grip of myself and actually enjoyed it – in fact I almost wished I could have another stab at the bit I slid on my arse down earlier!

    The organiser has given the riders a real challenge, something different to the manicured trails I’m used to flying around thinking im great. I like to think ill be a better rider for it. There were many moments on the 6500ft of fire road climb that I was thinking ah bollocks to this, but as soon as I finished I was feeling rather accomplished. Plus I managed to finish 20th on my first event 🙂

    My hat off to the organisers for doing something a bit different. It was by no means perfectly set out but it was what it set out to be – a challenge for people who love to get out into the wild and get covered in muck and smiles
