I received this in the epost today regarding the Yorkshire Tour de France bid for 2016. If you're out and about smile and wave to everyone.
"The organisers of the TdF will arrive in Leeds next Wednesday 23rd May - ( Wednesday not Thursday, already the timetable has changed ) they intend to have a short drive around the Dales from 10:45 to 11:45 ( TBC + Route ) and look at suitable roads/areas for the first stage of the 2016 Tour de France.
The plan is to have as many cyclists out on the roads in and around the Dales ( Route to be confirmed ASAP) to show the organisers that Yorkshire has lots of cyclists ( Which is true ) and what a great And beautiful place it is to cycle. - True again...And great for cycling.
There are no confirmed times or routes at the moment to show where the delegates will be and at what time, but we would like support if possible from all cycling clubs based in Yorkshire and leisure cyclist.
The delegates from the TdF would like to speak to some cyclists about cycling in Yorkshire and the Yorkshire Dales...
Thursday 24th May: The delegates are in the City Centre and we are looking at having a show piece of vintage bikes at Victoria Gardens ( Next to the Art Gallery )
As the delegates will be looking along the Headrow for a suitable Start/Finish area - We may try and have as many cyclists cycling up and down the Headrow - There's a challenge And other cyclists on Victoria Gardens supporting the delegates..
Rough timetable: Thursday 24th: 11:00hrs delegates arrive in Leeds City Centre at Millennium square - Mark Cavendish video..
11:30 - Walking tour of Leeds - Headrow - Briggate - City Museum - All to be confirmed.. + Victoria Gardens.
12:30 - Lunch
This is a great opportunity to promote Yorkshire and cycling.. And try to get the Tour here rather than Scotland... I know it's a lot of work for such a short time with the delegates, but if you're out on your bikes on these days or you can help support the Yorkshire bid - Then every bit will help."
