I have a plan which ends at the end of March 2017 with First Utility. If I leave early it’s a £60 exit fee.

I’ve seen cheaper deals elsewhere (Sainsbury’s) If I use a company like uSwich, how soon can I initiate that switching process and avoid the exit fee as well as spending as little time as possible on First Utility’s standard rate if the process goes beyond March. Don’t want to miss out as kWh unit rates seem to be on the up.

Ok, just found an answer to my own question. I’ll leave it here in case it’s helpful.

Even if your current plan carries an early exit fee, per Ofgem regulation, this fee is waived if you switch within the 6-7 weeks leading up to the plan’s end date.
