Tablets/pills/medication stating "swallow whole" - is this absolutely necessary? I can swallow capsules, caplets, and small round (i.e. antihistimine) tablets, but anything the size of a paracetemol tab and I can't swallow them without breaking them up first (having choked a number of times).
As far as I can tell, it's simply to delay or time release the drug once in the stomach - if it's broken, and therefore a faster release, does this really make much difference?
I'm on antibiotics at the moment and just assuming that they will work regardless of whether I break them up or not.
