where can i go in the UK and have a week away.
I want lots of good mtb but some where to get some surf lessons (for absolute beginners)

Porthcawl!? Surf at rest bay and ride afan??
Porthcawl is your typical slightly run down seaside resort but you can surf here and afans just half an hr up the road!!

ride dartmoor and get taught surfing by martin conelley at bigbury he runs discovery surf and is a nice chap I used to surf with/go to school with.

Somewhere on the western edge of Exmoor near Lynton etc (routes in this months ST - looks awesome) puts you within a short drive of Ilfracombe/Croyde/Saunton - all good beaches with lessons.
Or... somewhere on the Lynn in North Wales. Abersoch is (apparently - been but not surfed) meant to be good for surfing and is an hour or less to CyB etc.
Or the Gower.

Gower Peninsula - surf lessons at Llangenith, ride lots on the Gower itself or take a short drive to Afan. The Gower is a cracking little part of the country too.

Ok need help with this but here goes.... Theres a place on the East Coast of Scotland that does a surf contest every so often and is supposed to be good. Durness maybe? Betchya could tie that in with decent trails!

Saltburn (yorkshire/cleveland), surf's been crap this year though, conversely the moors have been quite dry, swings/roundabouts.
No lessons untill the summer, but TBH there's not a lot to teach, hire a board/wetsuit and boots and go splash about for a bit.

Go to the Scottish Borders, spend a few days riding the Stanes, Kielder Forest then down to Tynemouth where Steve who owns the Tynemouth Surf Shop can teach you to surf. Great riding, good learning and loads of new places you've probably never been to before.

If had a week to spare I'd look a little further afield. South west Ireland has a huge variety of bays and beaches and some of the best beginner friendly surf I've found. Not sure about the trails but I bet someone here knows.

gower every time - depending on the time of year.
If your going in the summer even the 'gennith can be flat. Summer time go for north devonautumn, winter, spring the gower. More options if surf is bigger / 'gennith unlikely to be flat. Plus south wales riding is awesome, i spend many a surf and bike weekend there

You could take a road-trip through Scotland going up to Thurso taking in Golspie and Laggan on the way up or down.
The beaches of East Lothian are fantastic, check out Sam @ http://www.c2csurfschool.com, and can easily be combined with Glentress and Innerleithen.
And of course you have the remaining stanes and the lakes going home.

Tweed Vally for trail centres and natural riding, also the Pentlands at Edinburgh, then 45 min drive to Dunbar in East Lothian for surf lessons with Coast to Coast,
Plenty xc riding in the County too if you want to come along with us locals
maybe lend you a pugsley if you fancy some beach riding with the posse

Alternatively E/NE Cornwall, West Devon gets you the ability to ride at Gawton DH [they do have a great trail bike friendly trail there, HSD]or west Dartmoor and surf on the north Cornish Coast, any where from Polzeath up to Bude isn't too much of a drive from Gawton.
Some good riding in the woods around Bodmin, which is only 15-20mins drive from Polzeath beach, but you'd need a local guide.

Another vote for the Gower, surf-school at Llangennith, a myriad of BP's to ride.

*BTW Riding Giants isn't proper surfing, tow-in's don't count - IMO of course.

Laggan, Craig Dunain at Inverness, Golspie (For MTB) - then up to Thurso for some surfin dude. Pop over to Durness, surf the first beach you come to, and use it as a base to ride some of the Glens (see Neil at 58 degrees north), then down to Torridon and ride the singletrack everyone is going on abouts. After that, Fort William and whatever floats your boat, then Black mount for downhill and some white water rafting in Perthshire to finish.

scarborough has good swell at the mo and im sure one of the hire places will do lessons for you, then theres dalby 20minutes away as well as the moors
