Over lunch I collected one of my bikes from my LBS after having a tune up.

Weighed the bike whilst I was there on their Park Tools scale.

Granted it a few years old being new in 1999.

    Double butted steel frame
Full XTR M951 gearing with XO cassette.
    Thomson finishing kit
    Flite Ti saddle
    DT Onyx wheelset
    Magura Julie disc brakes
    Marzocchi Z2 forks
    XT Spuds

Should I be surprised that it weighed 28lbs on the dot?

Chap in LBS had guess at 26lbs.

I’m not bothered either way just surprised thats all.

    Marzocchi Z2 forks

These will most likely have their own gravitational field* (if my old Z1s are anything to go by), have you noticed any small animals being pulled into orbit at all?

*But they work well and last ages because they’re full of oil…

Completely acknowledge that these are a heavy fork 😳

Still used for their ease of maintenance and plush feel.

feel like a lot more than 65mm travel 😆

26lbs sound normal for that spec. Marzocchi’s Z1/Z2 may be heavy but they are such a good fork it does not matter.

26-28 is pretty typical for a steel hardtail.

Still have some Marzocchi MX Pro forks from around 2004 I think. Still work faultlessly despite never having been serviced!
