Hello all, I had a couple of bikes stolen on Tuesday night (along with a
bunch of other stuff), and would like to ask people to keep an eye out
for any secondhand bikes that look a little too cheap.
They were stolen from Blaby, just South of Leicester, but could turn up
    pretty much anywhere.

The first is a Rock Lobster framed hardtail MTB.
    17" red 853 steel frame.
Hope disc brakes, handbuilt wheels, one rim is disc only the other disc
or pads, both wheels have black spokes.
Rockshox Duke black coloured sus forks.
Bog std. rear LED. Small tool bag attached to the saddle.
Sram X7 gears, 9 speed rear, only 2 rings up front (no granny ring).

The other is a fairly std. Giant OCR racing bike. Dark blue, medium size, was like
new. Only difference from new is a new front tyre, and a red saddle,
also a Specialized tool bag attached to the saddle.
B+M front light, bog std. rear. Extra light fitting for a Cateye light
    on the h/bars.

If you have any info, then could you either let me know, or ring Leics.
    Police 0116 222 22 22

    Thanks

You have my sympathy, I had three bikes stolen from the lake district a few weeks ago. Police recon they will have been sold for a fraction of their real value in a market somewhere in one of the big cities. I'm keeping an eye on Ebay and various classifieds, but don't really hold out much hope.

It just makes you so bl00dy angry that you save up to get these things and some a$$hole with a van and some bolt croppers comes along and they're gone. 😥

    Good luck

Good luck alanl finding them, worth keeping an eye on ebay and gumtree.

Also, might be worth setting up "google alerts", the RL should stand out quite well.

Thanks for the replies. I'll be going round a car boot on Sunday, and have set searches on ebay. Remarkably, the Police said I could use reasonable force if I find someone with the bike. I think that means you can break one leg and 3 fingers to subdue them!

I'll keep an eye out. Got my 'low value' bikes back but the mountain bikes that were nicked , Jones and cotic soul have not been heard of since, I still search ebay gumtree etc. The scrote they got, got a months curfew and a weeks community service, wouldn't talk abut the mtn bikes:-(

I see on MTBR that someone in the US picked up a Spaceframe from Craigslist. Wouldn't be the first place I advertised a specialist bike like a Jones.

And against all odds, the Police have recovered these bikes from 2
addresses today. They say there were 3 addresses raided, and all yielded
stolen goods, amongst them my bikes.
Numerous scratches, lights and tools missing, but generally still in one
    piece.
1 person arrested, the others will be picked up when they are next seen
    (hopefully)
    A well pleased Alan!

those will all be scams, the seller won't actually have the bike to sell, just using it as bait… you'll email them expressing interest, they'll give you some story about being out of town etc, will try and get you to use an 'escrow' service for payment (or somesuch)… basic aim is to get you to hand over cash any which way they can…
