    So….

I need to get my foam grips to stay on my CNT bars.

I’ve shortlisted a few ways to get them to stick:

    – Hairspray
    – Brake Cleaner / Contact cleaner
    – Wood glue
    – Hot Water

Does anyone have experience of getting their grips to stick? The hairspray method works fine on Alu bars, but it didn’t work on my shiny carbon bars last time – spin city.

    80 grade sandpaper perhaps?

    Cheers

Araldite 2 pack glue. Some on the bar and a bit inside each grip.

wont the araldite “melt” the foam???

i only say this as i have had it melt some polystyrene on a helmet before.

Possibly, try not to get any on the outside of the grips!

Araldite? Jesus, I want to use to bar with other grips when they wear out…..

I don’t really want to use something that will bond carbon at a molecular level…. that’s why i was thinking wood glue… as it wont bond to the epoxy resin…..

    any more ideas?

but then surly the grip can melt all the way through and it wont be a comfy grip feeling if it has hard melted bits n there?

also it could mess up the carbon as it is a composite material?

Hairspray should work, but contact adhesive is better.

try spraying hairspray on the bar 1st. let its set. spray some in the grip and slide it together.

Wait 30 seconds or so before you put the grips on too.

Or try Spray Mount. I’ve fitted numerous different foam grips to various carbon bars and haven’t ever had a problem myself.

Motocross shops sell grip glue. It works pretty good and best of all is you can get it off again later. Renthal makes it.

    +1 for spray mount.

Another option you could try is put some wide masking tape on the bars then use a THIN smear of PVA on the masking tape and put the grips on. When the grips are trashed just rip the whole lot off.
