[Closed] Stans Alpha 340 + Michelin tyres

Guys,

I've just finished tensioning my new road wheels, Stans Alpha 340s.

I foolishly tried to inflate tubeless a few weeks ago before being informed that I needed tyres with a carbon bead which wouldn't stretch. In the process I blew a brand new Michenlin Pro3 off a couple of times, and there was a suggestion that if the tyre had blown off the rim, the bead had stretched, and the tyre would be good for the bin ๐Ÿ™

I've just inflated what I think was the same tyre with a tube with the same rim-popping effect, so swapped it for a brand new just-out-of-the-packet Michelin Lithion 2, with identical results ๐Ÿ™

So, is this user error (although how hard can fitting a road tyre be, I've never had a problem in the hundreds of previous times) or is the bead a bit 'baggy' on Michelin tyres (no levers required to fit the tyre onto the rim) and I need a tighter fitting tyre?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Cheers, Rich

I found Alphas to not be the easiest when it came to fitting tyres. Took me 3 or 4 attempts to get my Ultremo's on properly & that's using tubes. Haven't had any problems since though.
