I've got the SRAM X-9 10speed (though probably applies to 9 speed) nearly brand new.
The return spring on the right hand thumbie is very lazy, so on an upshift I have to manually pull the lever back.:(
Anybody else had this problem : is there a solution?
Tried lube and all the obvious stuff.

make sure the spring is sat in the correct place. If the shifter has come loose internally then it can make its way off the rotating thing in the shifter. (That's if it's a pre 2011 one where you have to take the top cover off the shifter to change the cable).
If it's a new shifter, i'd just send it back on warranty.

I had this problem a while back, had to replace the mech. At least for the 9 speed, it seems to be a known issue, try and get the shop to sort it.
I now store my bike with the smallest cog selected in an attempt to prevent it stretching again.
I assume you've checked that the cable isn't gritty or anything?

Would do but I am not the original buyer, may be that does not matter though.

Snap - my shifter is with Fishers as we speak.
Seems to be a fairly common occurrence

I had the same with the left hand side shifter. starting to get pretty fed up with SRAM. Costs more than shimano, doesn't work as well

Make sure the brake lever isnt pushing down on the top of the shifter....sounds odd but it happens a lot!More of an issue with the old 9 speed ones where you removed the whole cover to access the cable.

Gripshift perhaps is another option. Clean bars too.

Campag don't do an MTB groupset unfortunately.
Maybe Hope will bring out some shifters

I had an x-9 shifter that did the exact same. I tried rebuilding it but never could get it back together.
Use XT now

Maybe I'll strap some drop bars on it and use the Force shifters from my road bike. That'll be cool ;/

Some X9 mechs had an assembly issue where the wrong sized pins were used in them making them stiff. All of their mechs have a date stamp on them so if you call them and explain it they should swap it out I believe.
Not had the issue myself, but a friend did.
