Good lad. As I've been saying to everyone - if he couldn't win it after the year he's had, he'd never do it.

Well deserved - though if farah or strauss had won it I wouldn't have blinked.

Pity Hart didn't make it into the highlights Reel.

He comes across better on Twitter, just as humble but not quite as, well, overwhelmed. Respected his ability until he appeared on Twitter, then I started to like him. After that "speech" that was about almost anyone apart from him, even people riding to work getting a mention I couldn't be more pleased with the result.
Made my first ever voting on a TV show quite worth it

Absolutely brilliant result and one that's gone to someone who has achieved so much and really is a truly outstanding in his sport.

Whadha matta? Come on - his speech was truly dreadful - respect to the guy's achievements this year but you can't deny that was a bomb of a speech.

I thought it was ok he is a sportsman not a public speaker he was clearly very pleased , surprised and in awe of the award which was genuine and not fake. he thanked lots of people..what do you want some stand up?

FFS what's your favourite winners speech then ? No one remembers them anyway

  32. gravitysucks - Member

He's normally got so much to say for himself in Interviews; just goes to show he wasn't expecting it or had anything prepared.
Once again thanks and gives recognition to his team mates before anything else. Top bloke and well deserving, great to see cycling in people's minds more.
Not sure why people have a bug up their ass about him.

Zara Phillips - now that was a bad speech.

I was actually impressed with his speech - in the sense that given you normally can't shut him up, and he does interview so well, it shows just how much it meant to him. Not sure about the surprise - he clearly had a speech prepared, but just lost it. Or maybe he's not so good when he is trying to make a rehearsed speech rather than doing it off the cuff?

it's still a bit manly though eh? there must be somewhere a female athlete with more peronality than contender "Andrew Murray Moved ahead of Roger Federer to be world number three".
