None of that resembles mountain biking as I know it.

And doesn't represent Golf either for a large number that take it seriously and compete...

As has been said above, you'd be amazed at the parallels that can be drawn between Golf and cycling, I know more middle management types these days that load their company cars up with mountain bikes than golf clubs these days! In fact, Golf is more of a working man's sport these days, and it's actually cheaper to buy top notch kit and play a good round than it is to buy the top kit for Mountain Biking!

OK so, how about both pastimes having their roots with people finding new ways to enjoy the countryside and all the best places to "do it" being in Scotland (allegedly)

Yes I suppose you can see the countryside from most golf courses ๐Ÿ˜‰

I can see that it may attract some similar types, but as far as the actual activity, they're completely different, unless I've been doing biking all wrong.

golf is just glorified tiddlywinks with stickbats and little balls.
and a waste of good farmland.

hopefully Cavendish will win it, spoke to Jessica Ennis last week and she thought he would win it even though she wanted Mo to win.

Elite golf is summed up with how they measure success: the money list.

Coach: Andy Flower VERY well deserved
Team: England Cricket, again very well deserved
Lifetime acheivement: Steve Redgrave, what more can you say... This is starting to look like a vintage year!

Now lets just hope they get the top 3 right...

word is PERSONALITY! "the shortlist is the result of voting by sports editors. There has never been a woman sports Editor on a British national newspaper. And there's no one on the horizon" doesn't that just make it sound biased from the off? I blame the media etc.

When you see all the acheivements this year in a nice compact summary, we've done OK really? Also in Tri (probs my main sport) that wasn't mentioned too much tonight.

Good lad. As I've been saying to everyone - if he couldn't win it after the year he's had, he'd never do it.

Well deserved - though if farah or strauss had won it I wouldn't have blinked.

Pity Hart didn't make it into the highlights Reel.

He comes across better on Twitter, just as humble but not quite as, well, overwhelmed. Respected his ability until he appeared on Twitter, then I started to like him. After that "speech" that was about almost anyone apart from him, even people riding to work getting a mention I couldn't be more pleased with the result.
Made my first ever voting on a TV show quite worth it ๐Ÿ™‚

POSTED 26 MINUTES AGO # REPORT-POST

Whadha matta? Come on - his speech was truly dreadful - respect to the guy's achievements this year but you can't deny that was a bomb of a speech.
