    Hi guys,

I have been looking to up grade from the trek 6000 that has done me will to a full sus. I have been keeping tabs on the Specialised Pitch.

Last years was a huge success and several mates have recommended them to me. I have just seen this years and they have gone up in price, but I can't see to much differece. I have two questions.

    1. Anyone let me know if they know what the extra costs is for?

    2. Does anyone know of any reviews, i can't seem to find one.

    cheers

As far as i know they now have better wheels, double and bash with chainguide. The pro is 200 more than previous model but that was 2008 price, so price dont seem to bad really. Reviews will be no diff to the older model as its the same apart from few upgrades.

But isnt the new Comp £1400? I only paid £975 at the end of March. To be honest if it wasnt for them being so cheap previously people would still go on about them being cheap in comparison to the rest of the current market.

So wile it isnt quite as good a buy as the bargaintastic 08/09 models it is still a very good value fantastic riding bike with good kit that is worth of any upgrade that you can afford and/or wish to put on it. And as a bonus Spech have used a normal size shock so you can replace it if you wish!

The 975 you paid was sale price, the comp was 1200 rrp. The 2010 model will also be cheaper than rrp when in the sale. Both the comp and pro were 2008 bikes at 2008 prices, they just continued to sell em off in 2009 at reduced rate.

I paid £999 delivered for my Pro in January last year…. And just missed out on one my LBS was selling for £900! 🙂

My take on the prices is this-
Spesh launched them just after the new Enduro in 2008. The Enduro was taking all the magazine reviews and press coverage and the Pitch was forgotten as 'Just a cheaper, heavier Enduro'

This left Spesh with a pile of 2008 Pitches and a problem. This is why there never was a proper 2009 model Pitch: They had so many unsold 2008 models, all of which were heavily discounted in the stores, just to get rid of them.
All of a sudden 3 mags in the UK reviewd the Pitch near the end of 2008 (Spesh just sent out a load of free bikes IMO!) and they all raved about them. All the reamining heavily discounted bikes disappered VERY quickly indeed at those sale prices. Shops were putting the prices up as the stocks got lower, too. I paid £999 and a week later my brother got one from the same store, but he had to pay £50 more….. They ran out very quickly after that.

I don't mind admitting that it was the reviews that tipped me over the edge. When the Pitch first came out, I'd not long since bought a Yeti 575, but it was still a BIG "D'OH!!!" moment, because I knew it was the bike I'd been looking for when I bought the Yeti. When I saw the reviews a year later, and realised how cheap they were selling for, I couldn't get the Yeti on Ebay fast enough, TBH!
I'm very happy with the Pitch as well. The Yeti was a better climber, but everywhere else the Pitch blows it into the weeds, IMO. A far better bike, and more fun too. 🙂

The reasons the 2010 model is £200 more is better (And lots more suited to the bike, IMO) spec. Beefier wheels, better brakes, double/bash/chain device and air rather than coil forks, and because you're just not getting those discounts. And I doubt you will again, too.
Personally I prefer mine with the coil forks and Shimano chainset, but otherwise it's been upgraded pretty much in line with the 2010 OE spec bikes

I have to say I can see me keeping it a very long time…. 😀

We got too used to Pitches at stupid prices, basically. They're still great value. Just a shame the 2010 colours are so horrible really. Bring back the poo coloured pitch!

There was a nearly new medium comp frame in the classifieds earlier today for £450 with a fox shock. For the price of a 2010 you could build it up to a much better spec of your choosing with new or nearly new bits off here. I took a similar route, chose all the components that I wanted and didn't make the compromises you always have to when you buy a stock bike – wheels, brakes, drivetrain etc.
