    They’ve landed that reusable booster.

How about that inflatable module too?

Andre Norton coined a phrase for that “fin point landing”.

That’s damned impressive! The inflatable room it delivered is pretty cool too.

My little brain struggles with the amount of computing power that must be involved to get it to do that party-trick, so damned quickly.

It’s also the controllability of the rocket, being able to throttle it back in reliable, consistent way.

I love the way it just goes nicely vertical a fraction before it lands. Really cool! 🙂

Oh and bear…why aren’t you out blowing your winnings on hookers and coke? 😛

NASA look like a bunch of (comparative) underachievers! Great to see the progress they’re making.

What stops it falling over once it landed? It’s a really tall rocket on a unmanned boat rolling about in waves and stuff.

There’s a manned boat a safe distance away, once they get the all-clear they board the drone ship and tether it down for the trip back.

It’s got an extremely low centre of gravity as the top section is essentially an empty fuel tank and the bottom has the rather heavy engines in it.

Once it’s landed, a team secure it to the deck of the drone ship by welding the feet to the ship then it’s towed back to the Florida coast.

I still can’t help thing that parachutes would be cheaper and easier 😉

However, just a marvelous piece of engineering/science to achieve that feat, sometimes we humans do some good and clever stuff.

It has legs that unfold just before it lands to cushion the impact of landing and support the rocket (you can see them flip out at about 0:06 in the video).

    Very clever stuff.
