Is there a station in Eton?

Windsor & Eton Riverside, and Windsor & Eton Central.

Songs that just name places with a train station don’t really count though, as mentioned you’ve got any number of songs with “Angel” in them! Plus virtually any town! Frank Turner mentions Winchester in numerous songs, actually in the context of catching a train in at least one song.

The reason it’s UK only is that worldwide would just be too difficult, and most of us stand a chance. American stations don’t count.

OK, so I believe they were writing it about a pub

Doesn’t have to be ABOUT a railway station, it just has to contain the complete name of the station. Angel of Harlem is a goodun 🙂

I originally said lyrics, but that’s a bit broad.. prehaps title is better which is how people have interpreted it. Of course there are many songs with Angel in but that station’s already been used, as has Winchester, so you need another.

‘London’ by the Smiths. Euston station gets a specific mention.

Dover is Dover Priory (thought there used to be Dover Harbour too?), so that one above wouldn’t count.

I’d just like to point out that all three of mine ARE about the station and are therefore superior in every way.

Billy Bragg, A13, Trunk Road to the Sea has quite a few.

    It starts down in Wapping
    There ain’t no stopping
By-pass Barking and straight through Dagenham
    Down to Grays Thurrock
    And rather near Basildon
    Pitsea, Thundersley, Hadleigh, Leigh-On-Sea,
    Chalkwell, Prittlewell
    Southend’s the end

As the rules seem flexible, how’s about a video in a train station?

    Homeward Bound

It is uncertain exactly where the song was written: in an interview with Paul Zollo for SongTalk Magazine, Art Garfunkel says that Simon wrote the song in a railway station “around Manchester” while in an earlier interview for Playboy Magazine Simon stated that the railway station was in Liverpool. It is likely, however, that it was written at Widnes railway station during a long wait for a train, when traveling back from Widnes, where he had been playing; a commemorative plaque is displayed on the wall of the Liverpool-bound waiting room.

And btw the rules are NOT flexible, they are just poorly defined.

Rudy, by Supertramp. Cue Paddington station announcer:
“The 19.45 train to Bristol Temple Meads will depart from platform three, calling at Reading, Didcot, Swindon, Chippenham, Bath Spa and Bristol Temple Meads. Passengers for Ramsey, change at Didcot”
There’s eight main-line stations right there.

In similar vain – St John’s Wood is the only station to contain none of the letters from the word “mackerel”.

Whereas Mackerel Junction contains all of the letters from the word mackerel.

Sorry Rusty, ‘What is Chatteris’ only one, Ely. Both Chatteris and St Ives are long closed. (Still a great song, especially if you know Chatteris).
