I have a 400g box of soap flakes. How much for a machine wash of 2 items?

I know i have to dissolve in water first – how much water/g?

Could i make up a big (5l) bottle and just use as and when i need?

I just stick a small amount in the detergent drawer. 1/2 cup would be about right.

I have a question – where’d you buy them? I scoured a couple of supermarkets this weekend & couldn’t find them. Unless I’m looking in the wrong aisle?

Just throw it into the drum with the clothing then. The ball isn’t adding anything.

Just tried your method in the detergent drawer – it took 2 full kettles of warm water to push it through!!

Gonna try option 2 now – 4l of hot water and a cup of flakes dissolved 🙂

I just mix about half to a cup full with warm water in a jug, then pour it in via the drawer or directly onto the clothes.
Stir well till the flakes dissolve.

If the clothes are really, really, fallen-in-a-peat-bog filthy, I’ll presoak them in the bath or in a bucket first with a soap solution.

You really don’t need to use loads of the soapflakes.

BEFORE YOU WASH YOUR CLOTHES:
Remember to run your machine through a couple of wash cycles at 90 degrees to remove detergent residue.
Couple of old towels to stop the drum jumping out of the machine. 😀

And how much water do you think goes through that drawer when the machine is doing its thing? I’ve been doing it that way for several years and never had a problem. Trust me – you’re over-thinking this!

the middle – prewash one side, middle is powder/liquid, right is softener

Two washes at 90 degrees before putting your bike gear in? Blimey that’s an expensive faff innit?

And how much do you pay for posh breathable jackets?
Would you rather buy new ones every time they get dirty?

Just checked – mine does a 95 degree wash! Never knew that, always use 40… I do a 30 degree fast wash before the gore wash 🙂

You still need to remove the detergent residue.

It takes 2 or 3 minutes to mix the soapflakes.

It tells you how much to use on the back of the box but…

measure 30g of flakes into a jug, pour about a pint of boiling water into jug and stir until dissolved, pour contents into drum with clothes and press go on the machine.

As above 30-40gm dissolved in boiling water then put direct in the drum.

I tried undissolved in the drawer and it clogged the machine up, i’m using the Dri-Pak flakes

Is there really that much residue left in the drawer and drum to warrant 2x 90 degree washes?
If there is that much left then I could put normal clothes without detergent and the residue would clean them? I would have thought that the small amount of residue would get diluted enough by the water and soap flakes so as not to matter.

Isn’t this just a simple maths / dilution equation? therefore if its 40g per item (for example) and you know you’re going to ‘dose’ your wash with 100ml of ‘formula’ then just dilute 400grams in 1 litre of warm water? as long as you shake it up each time you use it that should now be your detergent free detergent.
