I have just never seen the point of having a car designed as a convertible then whacking a plastic roof back on it.

As I understand it, fabric roofs are noisy, cold and the back windows are small. I would appreciate the option of a hardtop if I was getting a convertible.

However now there are plenty of retractable hardtops around, I'd probably go for one of those. VW Eos maybe (gets out the toasting fork and marshmallows ready for the flaming)

Totally agree with comments about VFM: I bought my 4-yr old Z4 a couple of years ago for less than the cost of a new 1.2 Corsa.

Maybe but (a) I can't afford one and (b) I'm stuck with the (very nice) Saab for 4 more years
