As a New Forester don’t really see this as a laughing matter – report to police.

    report to police.

Up here, the local bobby would likely appreciate that. His freezer was frequently full of venison.

Drag it over the bonnet and have a killer bbq on Sunday.

You could charge a quid per venison-burger and pay for your repairs!

No legal requirement to report hitting a deer (unlike many other animals)

Agreed. No requirement to report, but you can do anyways if it’s an obstruction on the road etc etc.

    Hope you’re ok.

I drove over a dead one (was pitch black and on the apex of bend). Was a big old thing, and there was a hell of a bang going over it.

Had it been stood, I would have definitely hit it and I hate to think of the consequences of hitting it full on.

Has no one mentioned that hitting deer can be quite expensive?

    Lucky it wasn’t a moose, could’ve been a right mess…..

If it’s still in the road then phone the police otherwise don’t bother.

What the **** are the Police going to do?

Well when I was the policeman for the UKs most popular area for hitting deer with cars, I’d drag it off the road onto the verge. Except when the guts had burst out because the smell of that was unbearable and bollocks to that.

Round our way there’s signs up saying call 999 for deer collisions. Don’t know why 999 and not 101. There’s no shortage of the feckers so I doubt they get a medivac

Why call the police to drag it off the road at all if it’s clearly optional?

Have moved them from the road myself when out cycling, obv not all motorists are safety-conscious/feel personally responsible to clear the highway after hitting one.

My brother hit one hard in a Smart car, it was never the same, despite replacing a load of panels and glass.

If your car is a mess speak to insurance, if, as they often do, want some sort of reference number from the police then you’ll have to use their limited resources to admit to Bambicide.
