Me and the mrs are looking at spending a week camping in Snowdonia in July and would be grateful for any campsite recommendations. We’d like a quiet site with decent facilities somewhere close to Snowdon for walking but also within reach of a trail centre or two. Don’t know the area very well at the moment so any ideas would be appreciated.

    Cheers

The Cwellyn Arms http://www.snowdoninn.co.uk has a campsite and is close to the start of the Ranger path so you have a few choices nearby. Its quite a small camping site but you get use of the bunkhouse facilities too. The pub is ok too, gets busy but has good beers.

There’s a large one at Beddgelert, I’ve used a lot over the years: http://www.campingintheforest.co.uk/wales/beddgelert-campsite

The one up towards Llyn Ogwen from Capel is nice enough, loads of midges though in June.

I’ve also stayed at the one near Betws-y-coed and would recommend. Very nice little woodmans caravan there for the upmarket option or a very reasonably priced 2 bed caravan if you fancy your own bathroom.

Best wee campsite in the area, right under Tryfan. Facilities are basic but clean and the views are superb. No pub and 48M Midges/cm2 in June.

the forestry commission campsite in beddgelert tends to suffer from midges, as its by a river, the one in the village costs the same as renting a cottage =pro rata !

I think capel curig is a good base– nice location, handy for trails, on the sherpa bus route–a much underated service–hop on and off anywhere on route –they stop anywhere– so you can do non-circular walks, there are three pubs in the village, a couple of cafes and usual amenities…
