Where’s the best place to head for fish and interesting stuff.
    (Try not to suggest Egypt!)

Have you got a special bike that you can ride under water?

The med is pretty dead. There’s some life in there but not much you can see snorkeling. Réserve Naturelle de Cerbère-Banyuls near the Spanish border is quite nice. Any reason you don’t want to go to Egypt, it’s another class when it comes to snorkeling. Plenty of good stuff as you get further down Africa, too.

Just the other side of the border from Cerbere is l’Estartit, with the Medas Isles (marine reserve) just off shore. Plenty of operators to take you out for some snorkelling there.

But the Red Sea beats the Med hands down.

We saw stacks of stuff off the beaches on Corsica and had a trip out to a small island that was even better.
Me, Mrs imp and the implets spent 5 mins on the beach and 6 hrs in the sea, at that island last year.

There is a also a marine reserve that runs from Nice all the way around to Genoa. The area within the reserve is slowly recovering from years of abuse but it is nothing like the Red Sea. There are a few fish and soft corals but if your expectation is based on the Red Sea you will be very disappointed.

Theres some lovely fish in the med, just don’t float around on the surface looking like a seal….
