    Hi all

I was cleaning out my headset bearings on my MTB – it’s an FSA Orbit ZR.

I carefully prised off the seal from the lower bearing, and as I was cleaning the grime off the seal, I managed to snap it (the wire running through the rubber). I have put it all back together, and it seems to seal still, but there is a bit of an overlap where it snapped so it doesn’t fit totally flush.

I have ordered a new one but am going for a ride tonight and wondered if it’s safe to use.

    Many thanks!

You don’t need one at all. Bearings won’t last, but no serious ill will come.

Perfectly safe to use, the seal isn’t structural. You could take the seals out of all your bearings and still ride if you wanted to.
